Hello! Our names are George and Mary
Hodson and we own Grand River Alpaca Farm located in the heart of Ohio's Napa
Valley. We are in beautiful Austinburg. Our farm is 7 miles south of Interstate 90. We are
located approximately 50 miles east of Cleveland, Ohio and 50 miles west of
Erie, Pa.
We first learned about alpacas from a
newspaper article in 1994. Wanting to learn more about these animals, we
ventured off to the library. To our surprise there was no available
information on the subject nor did anyone know what an alpaca was.
It wasn't until the summer of 1997 that we
saw a picture of an alpaca on the front page of the local newspaper.
Fiberfest, a display of fiber producing animals and an alpaca show was going on
close to our home, which at the time was in Geneva, Ohio. We were in
the
process of moving into our newly built home in Austinburg. We had dropped
everything and ventured off to Fiberfest in Kirtland, Ohio. It was here
that we touched our first alpacas. We spoke with many alpaca breeders and
obtained a wealth of information. Soon afterwards we joined the Alpaca
Owners and Breeders Association. We had visited many farms, attended
seminars and learned a lot about alpacas before purchasing our first three in
March of 1998. We have never regretted our decision on becoming alpaca
owners. The alpacas are our passion, the farm is our dream.
Grand River Alpaca Farm is a member of the
Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association(AOBA), the Ohio Alpaca Breeders
Association (OABA), the AOBA Show Association, and the Alpaca Registry, Inc. (ARI).
We offer breeding, sales and after purchase support to new alpaca owners. If you would like
any further information about alpacas or would like to visit our farm, please
don't hesitate to call. Come learn about alpacas and afterwards enjoy one
of the many fine wineries located only a few minutes away from the farm.
